Thorns to Glory

For Good Friday we created a large thorn of crowns using a simple hoop and twisted grocery bags. We then mounted this on the crux of the main cross in our worship center, which created a moving and stark focus for our Good Friday worship. Then for Easter Sunday we removed the crown of thorns and replaced it with a sunburst of glory. Between each arm of the cross we mounted a panel made out of gold fabric, pleated and glued to foam core, created radiating rays of glory. On the face of the cross we mounted a brass sunburst decoration taken from a member’s home. The contrast from the Good Friday Cross to the glorious Easter cross provided a powerful image that helped people experience the power of the resurrection.
